Torque Limitation via Airflow - Driving Like the Greats // Lotus Exige & Evora

The world’s best drivers - from Fangio to Senna to Verstappen - have always managed wheel spin the same way: with their right foot. By adjusting throttle with feel, they control torque instinctively, balancing grip and power in a way no computer could replicate.

With our latest firmware update for Lotus Exige and Evora supercharged platforms, we’ve brought that same principle into the car’s DNA. For the first time, torque limitation is managed via airflow rather than combustion - making interventions feel smoother, more natural, and closer to how the best drivers in the world control their cars.

From Combustion-Only to Airflow-Based Control

Until now, our torque limitation strategies relied on adjusting combustion using Ignition Retard and Cuts. While effective, this method can feel abrupt.

By shifting to airflow-based torque limitation, we deliver a driving experience that feels fluid, intuitive, and authentic. Instead of a harsh electronic cut, torque is shaped progressively - just as a skilled driver would when feathering the throttle.

Key benefits include:

  • Smoother DPM interventions that inspire confidence

  • More natural torque limits for safety systems such as fuel surge prevention

  • Refined driving modes for a better balance between performance and control

This is a first in the aftermarket - a solution that not only elevates performance but also retains all OEM features across all models.

The image below shows a driver getting hard on the throttle out of a corner (yellow Throttle Pedal signal) and the ECU working with the Lotus DPM Race Mode to control the power delivery (green Throttle Pos signal). Resulting in a faster, smoother corner exit.

Tested Where It Matters Most: On Track

We validated this update with customers at the track, where performance and drivability are pushed to the limit.

Drivers reported:

  • The car felt more predictable when exiting corners

  • Increased confidence under hard acceleration

  • Noticeably quicker, more consistent lap times

As one Lotus owner told us:

“It just feels more natural. The car isn’t fighting me anymore — I can lean on it harder, and it gives me the confidence to push using the Race Mode fully.”

Available to All Current Customers

We’re committed to ensuring every CP customer benefits from our latest advancements. That’s why this firmware update is available to all existing Lotus Exige and Evora supercharged customers.

The firmware update itself is provided at no charge. To ensure seamless integration, every installation includes a comprehensive calibration review, performed at a flat $395 AUD service fee.

This process covers:

  • Reviewing and validating your calibration data

  • Running diagnostic checks for compatibility

  • Making precision adjustments to integrate the new control seamlessly

It’s an investment in precision engineering, ensuring the update delivers the performance, safety, and refinement we stand for.

Looking Ahead

This firmware update is more than just an upgrade — it’s the foundation for the next generation of traction and performance strategies, particularly for track-focused drivers. It also underpins our roadmap for future kit releases on newer Lotus models, ensuring CP customers continue to experience innovation ahead of the curve.
